THE LOOSE DUCK RACE 2012

The world famous Loose Duck Race will take place along the Loose Stream and on Brooks Field, Loose village on Bank Holiday Monday, 4th June, 2012. The first race starts at 2pm and tickets go on sale from 1.30, but this is a very popular event and tickets run out quickly, so be sure to get to the field early to avoid disappointment.

The races are timed and announced on the public address system so everyone knows when to make their way to the stream to cheer on their very own duck... and if you win you'll be given an exclusive 'Winner' mug with a specially created Ralph Steadman illustration (pictured right).

OTHER ATTRACTIONS: Stalls will be open and ready for business by 12.30. We have an exciting new attraction this year, street theatre from professional touring company The Galloping Cuckoos. The company will perform their show, 'Driftwood', at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.

'A group of fisherwomen roam the coast, hauling their small
fishing hut, made of worn, splintered driftwood, rusty timber
and sailcloth. They seek places to drop anchor and connect
with the locals - to share their sea stories through choral
song, old folk tunes and live music.
Dressed in bold, bright fisher-folk outfits - the fisherwomen
will encourage the audiences to write down their “worries or
wishes” and store them in a bottle leaving a piece of intimate
knowledge for the women to cherish and keep. In return, the
women will sing a personal sea shanty, encouraging
audience members to “cast away their worries and haul in
their dreams”. Driftwood is a funny and nostalgic piece of
interactive outdoor theatre suitable for all.'
